BIOGRAPHY
Thierry Muana-Mputu Mantungi, mostly known by the stage name Stizzo Staxxx, was born July 1st 1987 in Brussels, Belgium from Congolese descents. His father, dealing with unemployment at the time, had to travel to Canada leaving his family behind in order to find a t the family. STAXXX lived the first years of his life with his mother only and father visiting on a regular basis. At the Age of 9, he then moved to Canada with his parents and two younger siblings, Gael & Gregory. From there on, he moved from Sherbrook, Qc, to Gatineau, Abitibi-Temiscamingue. Following his father on his search to employment stability, he then travelled with his family consisting of 4 siblings at this point, Gael, Gregory, Kenny & Jennifer, to Labrador City, Labrador, where he learned English at the age of 13. Always a fan of music since a very young age, STAXXX started recording songs with his brothers with his cassette-tape player.
At the age of 15, Thierry’s father, Alain Zimafuala, decided Labrador was not the best place for employment or to raise his children. After thoroughly looking for employment all over the country, he then decided to move to Windsor, Ontario where he would finally settle down. Stizzo then pursued his studies in Windsor, Ontario at L’Essor Secondary, a French school populated mostly by french-ontarians. Surrounded by local hip-hop artists such as RichyNix who he was looking up to at the time, STAXXX was writing songs became a hobby for him, he had pages and pages of lyrics with instrumentals he started producing on Fruity Loops on his low budget computer.
After a couple years of producing and writing lyrics, his school friend Mike Atcho, a hip-hop & Party promoter, listened to the boy’s hunger to start recording music, and introduced him to a local rapper known in the South Windsor area by the name of Smyth The Kid. Together with Smyth, STAXXX who then went by the name of HighStyle, recorded their first songs in professional studios. With local hits such as Bad Guys & Business Man going viral in the local hip-hop community, they then decided to create a rap/producer group going by the Beat Heads. Thierry released his first mixtape in HighSchool named ‘Chillin’ in the 519’’ which was a compilation of songs recorded.
After graduating from High School, STAXXX continued his studies at Laurentian University where he met Montreal well known local artist, MacChicks. Even though, he rapped in French, they began working on a mixtape together titled ‘Best Of Both Worlds’ and made hits such as 100$ billz (2008) & Best in The Game (2008). The mixtape was never released. The two MCs would go head to head on murderous instrumentals to prove their abilities to the bilingual population. The features went viral both in Sudbury & Montreal, proving that they had what it took to make it to the next level.
The previous year, 2004, Thierry’s father was diagnosed with liver cancer, and passed away the following year leaving behind STAXXX, his siblings, the mother of his children & their first house. At the time, STAXXX didn’t seem to have been affected even though you could see that he was hurt by the death of his father. But it’s in the later years that he realized how he had been affected by this. Fresh out of High School, University didn’t seem so important to him anymore as he wanted to pursue a rap career, claiming that it was the only thing he loved to do. After 3 years of University, STAXXXX decided to move back to Windsor and linked back up with old rap partner Smyth The Kid. They began recording separately and after a year, Smyth opened Vocal 1 Studios where he let STAXXX record for free. During this period, STAXXX started developing he’s musical ear & style and was influenced by a new genre of hiphop, mostly southern sounds such as Roscoe Dash, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, etc. After recording a dozen songs, he decided to release his first official mixtape, entitled Take over Season Vol. 1, mostly mixed and recorded by Smyth The Kid from Vocal 1 Studios & Chris Chase, young mixing master mind at The Garage Studio. Due to police harassment, he then relocated to Montreal for more opportunity for success. After teaming up with 40 Records CEO, Jay Paper, who he had done a few business ventures with, they worked on a business plan for the mixtape Kush & Rose Vol. 1, released January 1st 2013. Unsatisfied with the management over at 40records, STAXXX felt like he had to create his own trend of HipHop, his own image, to share his perspective on hipop with the world . With Help from his experience & knowledge on the rap game, Stizzo STAXXX founded Muscle Gang Entertainment to release not only his own material, but to help other local artists release their material as well. Kush And Rose is the latest project by Stizzo STAXXX to date and he is now prepping his upcoming mixtape Higher Society.
